Metrocentre Announces ‘Nice Ice Baby’: A Magical Ice-Skating Adventure Arriving This Winter

Skate into the festive season at Metrocentre's new accessible Ice Rink, offering fun and memorable experiences!

Metrocentre has announced the arrival of an accessible ice-skating rink just in time for the festive season! 'Skate @ Metrocentre will open in the Yellow Mall car park, offering visitors a real ice rink, fully covered, where everyone can skate in style, come rain, shine or snow.

Whether you’re a beginner finding your feet or a seasoned pro, the new ice rink is the perfect destination for families, friends, and ice-skating enthusiasts to come together and enjoy a fun-filled day. Running from 15th November 2024 to 5th January 2025, Ice Leisure Group will operate the ice rink bringing a hub of excitement and enjoyment for all ages to enjoy.

Denisa Cook, Operations Director @ Ice Leisure Group, said: "Metrocentre is the perfect place to ice-skate on real ice this winter with your friends and family. Additionally, there are discounts available for larger school and business bookings. You can really have a full day out at Metrocentre. It's highly recommended to pre-book your tickets at as we anticipate many sessions will sell out in advance."

The ice rink will be open five days a week from 15th to 30th November (Wednesday to Sunday), then open seven days a week throughout December and early January. Opening times vary depending on the day, with midweek sessions available from 2pm to 8pm and extended weekend hours from 9am on a Saturdays and 10am on a Sundays.

“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing back our ice-skating experience even bigger and better, to Metrocentre this winter,” said Gavin Prior, Metrocentre Centre Director. “Our new ‘Nice Ice Baby’ rink offers a fantastic winter experience for visitors of all ages to enjoy, and alongside our Santa’s Elf Academy, the centre will be transformed into a fantastic destination for everyone to celebrate the season together.”

Guests can kick off their celebrations with a special offer by using code METRO10 at checkout to get 10% off all November sessions. This promotion is valid until Sunday, 20th October.

Pricing

  • Adults (including skate hire): £15.40pp
  • Under 16s (including skate hire): £11.95pp
  • Students (including skate hire): £13.40pp
  • Carers: Free when attending with a ticket holder
  • Discounts are applied for group bookings of four or more, with 10% off for smaller groups and 15% off for groups of 10 or more.

Accessibility

Metrocentre’s ice rink is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the magic of skating. For visitors using electric wheelchairs, manual mode is required for safety. It is recommended to attend one of the quieter sessions or book a SEND session to provide ample space for manoeuvring around the ice rink.

Please note that while wheelchairs are allowed on the ice, there is a small step that helps retain the water/ice. Assistance will be required for wheelchair users to access both the ice and the step.

Skate UK

Skate@Metrocentre will be bringing the NEW Skate UK mobile app to life with a series of 4-week Learn to Skate courses delivered by British Ice Skating licenced coaches. New skaters will sign up and complete Levels 1 to 3 of the Skate UK course which is designed to engage and educate on-ice and via the app.’

Please note that children under 16 must be supervised by a responsible adult from the viewing area, and children aged 8 and under must be accompanied on the ice by an adult with a ticket. Children aged 3 and under or those unable to walk without support are not permitted on the ice for safety reasons.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive at least 20 minutes before their session begins to allow time for skate collection and fitting. This winter, Metrocentre’s Yellow Mall will transform into a skating wonderland, inviting everyone to grab their skates and glide into a magical season.
